Terminology Management and the Translator
From Project Planning to Database Creation

Paola Faini

In response to the requirements of specialized communication, terminology positively supports the professional activity of technical/specialized translators. In fact, it reduces translation time and helps produce good quality consistent translations. It is also an excellent way of acquiring specialist skills that can be developed at an early stage if terminology training is given an appropriate role in translator training programs. It is with the intent of encouraging translator-oriented terminology training that this study has been conceived. After touching upon the theoretical principles underlying the project, it provides a basic orientation in the management of terminology, by offering a methodological approach to the various phases of a descriptive terminology project from an application-oriented perspective.
